I only have a sewing machine can I make scarves and quilts too?

Hello,
I want to take up a hobby of sewing since my aunt gave me one of her sewing machines last summer. I am 29 and female, I have not really sewn anything before LOL. How can I learn how to make heavy bed quilts and scarves like this:

That is a knitted scarf, which is done by hand with knitting needles and yarn, not a sewing machine.
Michael’s does not carry sewing supplies or fabric. You can make a quilt (out of fabric) with any sewing machine. It is hard for a beginner to do a large quilt. It is a lot of fabric to manipulate in the machine. There are plenty of good quilt books for beginners at the public library.
